Named after Billie Jean King herself, the trophy celebrates her lasting impact as one of tennis’s most influential figures. Both the singles and doubles trophies feature some of the sport’s greatest names engraved on the plinth, including Serena Williams, Chris Evert, Martina Navratilova, and Monica Seles.
As the Northern Hemisphere braces for winter, the Billie Jean King Cup promises a welcome burst of sunshine. This long-standing competition celebrated its 60th anniversary in Seville in 2023. Launched as the Federation Cup and renamed the Fed Cup in 1995, it assumed its current name in 2020, honouring the legendary American tennis pioneer.
The event unites teams from across the globe. From London, Thomas Lyte will be watching as the trophy, regularly maintained and restored in our workshops, is lifted at the conclusion of this six-day celebration of women’s tennis. Read more about how we maintain and restore the Billie Jean King Cup.
Thomas Lyte also provide the International Tennis Federation (ITF) with mini-replicas of the trophy for presentation to each of the winning team members.
Another highlight during this busy period of tennis is the Nitto ATP Finals.
This event is as storied as any in the sport. Formerly called the Masters Grand Prix, it debuted in 1970 and ran alongside the WCT Finals, marking the end of the World Championship Tennis season.
Today’s Nitto ATP Finals are very different from the original tournament. Thomas Lyte has played an increasingly important role in recent years. In many ways, this end-of-season showpiece celebrates Thomas Lyte’s association with the ATP, followeing our appointment as official trophy supplier in November 2021.
In addition to the Nitto ATP Finals Singles Trophy, which sees the world’s top players compete in two groups of four, Thomas Lyte also designed and crafted the doubles trophy, awarded during the concurrent doubles competition.
Both Nitto ATP Finals trophies feature eight sides, representing the eight doubles partnerships and eight singles players who qualify through their ATP rankings.
Our London fine silver workshops are the original home of the ATP World No. 1 Singles and Doubles Trophies. These trophies celebrate the players and pairings who finish the year atop the global men’s rankings. Both are presented to the respective winners during the week-long event.
Collectively, the ATP trophies rank among the sport’s most prestigious prizes, true jewels in tennis’s global crown. The tournament now establishes itself in a new home after 12 years at London’s O2.
The Davis Cup is one of tennis’s oldest tournaments. More than a century after its debut, it still holds timeless appeal.
Thomas Lyte are the proud restorers of a trophy which is every bit as impressive as the tennis played by the finalists. Originally made for a price of £700, this piece of sporting history is made from 217 ounces of silver and stands an impressive 13 inches high and 18 inches wide. It sits on a three-tiered plinth, making it one of the most distinctive pieces of silverware in global sport. It’s hard to miss when the trophy and plinth both visit our London workshops for restoration and engraving.
This tournament begins before midnight on New Year’s Eve and launches into the new year. The United Cup opens another breathless 12 months for the world’s best tennis players.
Whether it’s the first event of the season, or the last, is a moot point. But with the players vying for this Thomas Lyte-made trophy, it’s a further celebration of our close relationship with a sport that continues to thrill, year after year.
