Who made the AFC Champions League Two Trophy?

Collaborating with the AFC for a host of the most prestigious trophies across the Continent, Thomas Lyte, Royal Warrant Holders as silversmiths and goldsmiths to Her Late Majesty The Queen Elizabeth II, are the designers and makers of the AFC Champions League Two Trophy.

This striking trophy joins the family of trophies, designed and crafted by Thomas Lyte. The AFC Champions League Elite, the AFC Women’s Champions League and the AFC Challenge League trophies originated in Thomas Lyte’s London-based workshop. One of the largest gold and silversmith workshops in Europe.

Travelling across the globe, the Trophy was unveiled at the official draw ceremony for the Group Stage of the competition, in Kuala Lumpur. Asia’s most promising teams experienced the trophy’s gleaming magnificence first-hand.

“[The AFC Champions League Two] is a clear example of the AFC’s commitment to it’s vision and mission.”

Making the AFC Champions League Two Trophy

Crafted in London at Thomas Lyte’s purpose-built workshop, the trophy was born using a mixture of traditional techniques and modern innovation. The trophy was specially designed to link across the AFC men’s trophy family.  The arms of the trophy, in particular, have a recognisable affiliation with the AFC Asian Cup, the AFC Champions League Elite, and the AFC Challenge League, respectively.

A striking feature of the trophy is the 11 hand-hammered stripes, symbolising the importance of the collective within an on-field team. The body of the trophy is akin to a torso, representing the strength and fitness necessary to compete in the modern game.

Designed to showcase harmonious artistry and visual language, this trophy took inspiration from the Lotus Flower design of the – Thomas Lyte designed and made – AFC Asian Cup. Thomas Lyte’s craftsmanship and collaboration with the AFC focused on producing iconic and recognisable silhouettes throughout the AFC trophy family.

Using precision and mastery, through a process known as wire eroding, the name of the competition was elegantly cut and adorned to the trophy’s foot. The plinth upon which the trophy stands proudly will display the names of the competition’s winners for years to come.

A piece of silverware that blends traditional craft and contemporary design, the trophy stands at an impressive 65cm tall, reflecting the excellence and prestige of the Continent’s new second-tier men’s club competition.
