Who made the ATP World No 1 Singles Trophy?

We at Thomas Lyte handcrafted the ATP World No 1 Singles Trophy in our state-of-the-art London workshop. As one of the largest gold and silversmith workshops in Europe, our facilities are unmatched, granting us the ability to manufacture many of the world’s top sporting trophies.

Thomas Lyte’s long-standing relationship with the ATP extends across their season’s competitions. The Nitto ATP World Tour Finals singles and doubles trophies are designed and made by the London based gold and silversmiths. Alongside these prestigious pieces, we also handcraft the ATP World No 1 trophy for the best doubles team at the season’s end.

“We are proud of our affiliation with tennis, so it was a huge honour for our designers and makers to create the ATP Year-End World Number One Trophies. As the ATP acknowledged, this was very much a demonstration of our shared values.”

Who designed the ATP World No 1 Singles Trophy?

As goldsmiths and silversmiths to Her Late Majesty the Queen, Thomas Lyte are the designers of the ATP World No 1 Singles Trophy. Handcrafted in our purpose-built, fine silver workshop, the trophy has become one of the most coveted prizes on the men’s global tennis tour.

The trophy features multiple beautifully designed motifs, tying the silverware to it’s sport and competition. Resembling the ancient Greek amphora, the trophy’s full and elegant shape is designed to match the significance of the winner’s achievement. The handles sweep triumphantly upwards, curving to embrace a tennis ball where they meet the trophy. The movement of each handle echoes the shape of a swerving serve or return. The classically inspired stem of the trophy showcases a globe sitting above the base, and supporting the trophy, representing the worldwide reach of the ATP and it’s tour.

The ATP Finals

First played as The Masters, held in Tokyo in 1970, the ATP Finals is now one of the highlights of the sporting calendar. It’s an event that captures the imagination in cities around the world as the sporting year draws to a close. It is here that the ATP World No 1 Singles Trophy is presented to the player at the top of the ATP rankings.

The ATP Rankings determine the winner of the ATP World No.1 Singles Trophy. In order to finish top of the rankings, players must accrue as many points as possible over 20 tournaments. The points available at each tournament vary, ending with the ATP Finals, where a maximum of 1500 points are available to the undefeated champion.
