The growth of women’s football continues at pace – and the Designers and Makers of the SWPL Sky Sports Cup, Thomas Lyte, are proud to be part of the sport’s revolution. In Scotland, the 2022/23 season was a transformative one, with the launch of a trio of Scottish Women’s Premier League (SWPL) trophies, all three trophies symbolise the excitement and positivity surrounding the women’s game.
The SWPL Sky Sports Cup, coupled with two trophies for the Scottish Women’s Premier League (SWPL) and Scottish Women’s Premier League 2 (SWPL 2) have played their part in ushering in a new era for the sport.
Thomas Lyte enjoys a long-established relationship with the British game. This is why we were enormously privileged to be commissioned to design and craft the new SWPL Sky Sports Cup in 2022. This trophy will join Thomas Lyte’s long list of elite sporting credentials that also include the Emirates FA Cup and the Vitality Women’s FA Cup trophies in England, three new trophies for the SWPL, and the Women’s Scottish Cup.
The first trophy in this new suite of silverware was the SWPL Sky Sports Cup, which was awarded for the opening time in December 2022. The first-ever Scottish Women’s match to be broadcast on Sky Sports, saw Rangers lift the trophy, winning a pulsating encounter with Hibernian 2-0 at Tynecastle.
“We feel a lot of emotion,” said Rangers’ boss, Malky Thomson. “We were talking before about the enormity of the game, the bit of history there, the first-ever Rangers women to win a cup. It’ll go down in history and deservedly so.”
The 2022/23 season will be remembered long after its finish, not least because of the Thomas Lyte Designed and Made trophies which were unveiled at various points throughout the season. The SWPL Sky Sports Cup set the ball rolling, with its introduction sparking huge excitement throughout the women’s game and also in Thomas Lyte’s London-based workshop, where the trophy was designed and made.
Thomas Lyte has a proud record of working alongside some of world football’s largest and most prestigious organisations. In addition to our continued relationship with the Scottish FA and the Scottish Women’s Premier League, we are honoured to be the makers of the Emirates FA Cup and the Designers and Makers of the Vitality Women’s FA Cup as part of our long-established partnership with the FA.
