As world-renowned custom trophy makers in both elite sport and esports, Thomas Lyte were commissioned by UEFA and EA Sports to design and handcraft the eChampions League Trophy for the inaugural tournament in 2019. That year, top-ranked pro esports athletes, including former ePremier League Champion F2Tekkz and FIFAe World Cup champion MsDossary (both trophies also made by Thomas Lyte), competed for a place in the final. The final itself was held in Madrid. The same city, and on the same weekend as the UEFA Champions League final.
Designed by Thomas Lyte’s design team and handcrafted in Thomas Lyte’s London-based silver workshops, the silver-plated bespoke trophy stands at 60cm tall. While clearly designed to be from the reminicent of the UEFA Champions League trophy with two big handles and a traditional cup shape, the in-house design team added tasteful design levers to make this trophy unique and to The manufacturing process combined traditional silversmithing methods, including spinning, hot forging, engraving, silver plating and hand polishing. Overlaying these traditional skills our specialist manufacturing team employed leading-edge, pioneering modern techniques.
The eChampions League is a major tournament within the EA SPORTS FIFA 22™ Global Series, the most successful sports simulation gaming franchise in history. Eligible European competitors compete on PlayStation 5 and participate in the eChampions League Global Online Group Stage tournament, with the top 32 players advancing to the live knockout stages held in April.
In 2022, only eight of Europe’s elite advanced to the eChampions League finals in Stockholm. Finalists then battled it out for the chance to lift the coveted trophy and take home the lion’s share of the $280,000 USD prize pool.
Don’t miss the eChampions League group stage. The tournament kicks off again in April, with the final taking place in late May, usually the day before the UEFA Champions League final.
