Thomas Lyte are the makers of the UEFA Europa League Player of the Season Award. We are delighted to continue our long-standing close relationship with the governing body of association football in Europe.
Our London-based silver workshops handcrafted the previous awards for many years. However, a redesign of all UEFA awards took place ahead of the inaugural season of the UEFA Europa Conference League. We were delighted to be involved once again.
Thomas Lyte were also commissioned to manufacture the UEFA Europa League Young Player of the Season Award. With eleven UEFA Europa League Team of the Season Awards. Additionally, our master craftspeople created all UEFA Europa Conference League Awards for similar categories.
The history of European Club Football is the richest of any continental competition. The UEFA Europa League and Europa Conference League are, by football standards, relatively new competitions.
The Europa League replaced the UEFA Cup in 2009. The UEFA Cup had been a staple of the European club calendar since 1971, and itself replaced the UEFA Fairs Cup. The tournament was renamed the “Europa League” during the 2009/10 season. The Europa Conference League, meanwhile, is still very much in its infancy, and was first played for in the 2021/22 season.
The first recipient of the new Player of the Season award in the 2021/22 season was Eintracht Frankfurt’s Filip Kostić. Kostić scored three goals and six assists across Frankfurt’s successful Europa League campaign. In the final, the left-sided Serbian also nullified top scorer James Tavernier’s attacking threat. He also converted his penalty in the tense shoot-out with great composure.
The presentation of the awards takes place in August just before the draw for the group stages of the following season.

There was a familiar buzz of excitement at our silver workshops as we lovingly handcrafted the new awards for UEFA. Awards received by the deserving star performers from across European club football.
The silver-plated UEL Player of the Season Award stands at 30cm tall, similar to the Europa Conference League equivalent. Our custom trophy and awards experts set to work. Using processes such as hot forging, casting, filing, soldering, polishing and plating components, we finally assemble the awards. Finally, Thomas Lyte ship the awards, after each trophy passes checks by our quality control team.
Thomas Lyte create each award to appear as if part of the “family” of awards. The Player of the Season is the largest award. The remaining awards for team of the season and young player of the season were smaller in stature. They were, however, similar in shape, and suit the branding of the tournament.

The new five-year deal continues a relationship dating back over 20 years. Strengthening a close partnership between Thomas Lyte and one of the most renowned governing bodies in association football.
