At Thomas Lyte we’re as passionate about the future as we are about the past. Which is why we were proud to play a key role in making the SailGP Winner’s medals for seasons 1 and 2.
Founded in 2019, SailGP has transformed a sport, and brought it to an entirely new audience. SailGP features the fastest boats and most highly skilled crews in global sailing, pitting them against each other in a series of races across the globe. It’s a version of the sport that is not only providing huge entertainment – but also raising the bar when it comes to sustainability and the environment. It’s an event that Thomas Lyte is hugely excited to be associated with.
Thomas Lyte designed and made the SailGP Trophy – which was handed to the winners for the first time in 2019 – with the victors also receiving stunning hand-crafted winner’s medals. The trophy itself was designed with the power, beauty, and passion of this unique event in mind. And the winner’s medals are an extension of this – fitting keepsakes for those lucky enough to be part of the winning team.
“We asked for the design to encapsulate the power and the passion of the forward-thinking boats and world-class athletes. We are delighted that Kevin Baker and his team at Thomas Lyte have excelled in creating something so striking that does exactly that,” said Russell Coutts, CEO of SailGP.
SailGP is doing more than simply providing thrills and spills. It’s also leading the way to a more sustainable sporting future. The SailGP Impact League runs alongside the eight team event, and aims to recognise and reward those teams which are doing the most to mitigate their impact on the environment. It’s another example of how an age-old sport is pointing the way to a brighter future.
In addition to making the SailGP Trophy and winners’ medals, Thomas Lyte is proud to have designed and hand-crafted for various trophy and medal commissions related to the sport of sailing, including the Louis Vuitton America’s Cup Challenger Playoffs Trophy, the Artemis Challenge Trophy, and a medal program for world sailing.
