The Egyptian WE League Cup is an annual knockout football competition for Egyptian Premier League clubs. Ahead of the first edition of the tournament, the new trophy was designed in Egypt and handcrafted in London by the master silversmiths at the Thomas Lyte silver workshops. The same workshops craft and restore many of the world’s most recognisable elite sports trophies.
The Egypt WE League Cup trophy will be the third domestic trophy after the Premier League Shield and the Egypt Cup.
English goldsmiths, silversmiths, and Royal Warrant Holders, Thomas Lyte, are best known as world-class designers, makers, and restorers of many of the world’s most iconic trophies including the Emirates FA Cup, the Nitto ATP Finals trophy, the Rugby World Cup, and the AFC Asian Cup among many others.
Using a combination of traditional silversmithing and goldsmithing skills, and cutting-edge modern methods the trophy, the making processes chosen by Thomas Lyte to make the gold-plated trophy included 3D printing, hand-spinning, hot forging, electroplating, polishing, and engraving.
The tournament involves all 18 Egyptian Premier League clubs, who were put in three groups of six teams each. Each team play five games and the winner of each group will qualify to the semi-finals, along with the best second-placed team. The semi-final will then be a one-legged contest with the winners facing off in the final to lift the stunning new trophy.
Moments before the 2022 semi-final draw, Presentation Sports unveiled the new trophy.
In July 2022, newly-promoted Future FC made history by defeating Ghazl El-Mahalla 4-0 in the grand final to lift the new Thomas Lyte-made Egyptian WE League Cup trophy.
