The Barclays Knight-Stokes Cup is a new national competition that gives talented young cricketers from state schools the opportunity to compete on one of the sport’s biggest stages.
A Royal Warrant holder as silversmiths and goldsmiths to His Majesty the King, Thomas Lyte are world-renowned custom trophy designers and makers. With a portfolio including some of the most recognisable trophies in the global sporting world, including the Emirates FA Cup and the ICC Men’s and Women’s T20 World Cups.
Named after England captains Heather Knight and Ben Stokes, the new Knight-Stokes competition celebrates the next generation of cricketing talent. It provides a stage for boys’ and girls’ state school teams to compete nationally and earn the opportunity to have their names inscribed on a new Honours Board inside the Lord’s Pavilion Writing Room.
The two identical Barclays Knight-Stokes Cups have been designed to reflect the values at the heart of the competition: opportunity, excellence and aspiration. Three silver-plated cricket stumps rise from the base, crowned with gold-plated bails that frame the competition’s distinctive KS monogram within a cricket ball.
Elegant, contemporary and unmistakably cricket, the 40cm tall design creates a trophy that young players can dream of lifting while establishing an identity that will endure for generations.
For two decades, Thomas Lyte has created trophies that celebrate achievement at the very highest level of sport. The Barclays Knight-Stokes Cup represents something equally important: the beginning of that journey.
The competition opens new opportunities for boys’ and girls’ state school teams across the UK and the Republic of Ireland, giving them the chance to play at some of cricket’s famous venues, including Lord’s. By recognising talent early and inspiring participation, the competition helps strengthen the future of cricket for generations to come.
As a partner to the MCC in providing the Barclays Knight-Stokes Cups, Thomas Lyte is proud to support a competition that creates new opportunities for young cricketers. This commitment to nurturing the next generation reflects our own investment in young craftspeople through apprenticeships, skills development and the passing on of traditional silversmithing techniques alongside modern manufacturing technologies.
In addition to designing and manufacturing the Knight-Stokes Cup, Thomas Lyte is proud to have designed and handcrafted a wide selection of major cricket prizes, including the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup, the ICC Test Championship Mace and the Hundred Trophy. Thomas Lyte has also designed and made medals for many other major ECB and ICC tournaments.
