The ICC Men’s T20 World Cup may be new in sporting terms – the first global tournament was only played in 2007 – but the trophy has already become a symbol of a sporting revolution. It began in England in the summer 2002 and has since taken hold in every major cricket nation.
A Royal Warrant holder as silversmiths and goldsmiths to the Late Queen Elizabeth II, Thomas Lyte are world-renowned custom trophy designers and makers. With a portfolio including some of the most recognisable trophies in the global sporting world, including the Emirates FA Cup and the ICC World Test Championship Mace, Thomas Lyte has a long-established relationship and reputation in the world of cricket. The ICC Men’s T20 Cricket World Cup trophy is an illustration of that. The trophy is also a reflection of the format’s incredible growth in recent years and the special place that the T20 World Cup – an event held bi-annually – has assumed in the global cricket calendar.
This piece of cricket silverware, which is now firmly ensconced alongside the 50 over World Cup trophy, was lovingly hand-crafted in our London workshop, with our team of revered silversmiths creating a trophy weighing 3.9kg and measuring 51cm in height. Meticulously created with silver-plated base metal, the trophy – which was first handed to the winners of the 2021 tournament, Australia – is a stunning combination of five separate metal castings.
During its construction in the capital, these individual elements are placed together precisely to give the illusion that they travel through each other. The result is an exquisite trophy – and a worthy reward for whichever country comes out on top in the sport’s fastest moving international format.
In addition to designing and making the ICC T20 World Cup Trophy for both the men’s and women’s tournaments, Thomas Lyte is proud to have designed and hand-crafted many of the sport’s other major prizes including the ICC Test Championship Mace, the Hundred Trophy, the Vitality Blast Trophy and the Kia Super League Trophy. Thomas Lyte has also designed and made medals for many other major ECB and ICC tournaments.
